[Reg] Registering:
Whenever you're on the log in screen you see a big fat shiny button which says: Register, press it.
Well this seems easy and all:
On the right hand you've your starter pokemons, select one which you think is good for you (NOTE: this starter cannot be traded or whatsoever, you're pretty stuck to it once you pick it)
If you start playing, you'll receive 5 pokeballs and 1000 in game dollars, isn't that awesome!
Below that you can select whether you want to be a male or female (NOTE: Your sprite can be changed later (in game) for $500)
Starting region, in this patch/version of the game we can only start in either Johto or Kanto.
Agreeing with TOS, pretty standard, but just click it.
[Log] Logging in:
When you try to log in please make sure that there's a Server Version on the bottom on the screen.
Whenever you get the question mark(caption) you should press the back button on the login screen and reselect the server. That's pretty much everything you can do about it, this might take 3-4 attempts
[Menu] In game menu explained:
The first button, Trainer information
Here you can find your basic trainer information:
Trainer Level: As you catch, level, and evolve pokemon, as well as defeat trainers and gyms (npcs) you gain trainer exp, as you get more exp your level rises, higher trainer levels are needed to use certain HM moves, since we dont use HM's like the normal pokemon games because we didnt want to waste a move slot. HMs in relation to trainer level are as follows:
15: Cut
25: Surf (Just walk into the water and you will become a swimmer)
30: Rock Smash
35: Strength
40: Whirlpool
Breeding Level is not implimented yet but when it is your breeding level will increase with every pokemon you breed and in turn it will give you better stats on the pokemon that you do breed.
Fishing level: As you fish more and more your fishing level increases, you need higher fishing level to catch rarer pokemon, better fishing rods make your fishing level increase faster. see [Fish] For more information
Corrdinating level is not implimented yet.
Badges: When you defeat a gym leader you get the badge that represents the gym. Once you have 8 badges (all in 1 region or mixed between the 2) the pokemon in a gym become level 80 by default, so dont get that 8th badge unless your prepared for a challenge!
And obviously your current sprite :)
Second button: The Pokedex
See here, the pokedex, it used to be a different file but the developers did a great job on adding it in game!
The use is quite simple, but can be confusing if you don't know that you can't use your mouse to click on pokemons.
So, how do we navigate?
Well, you use the arrows on the right bottom to navigate. Click it to go 1 pokemon up, and your pokedex will show info on the person which the list is focused on.
BUT, no worries, to get to the very last pokemon in the list. You just have to click the blue buttons on the Right top side, which state 1,5,10 and 50. This will indicate the jumps you'll make in the list.
Location:
Here you can see the location(s) where the pokemon can be found, this will be indicated by a black "face" showing on the route.
Lore
The usual story which is shown on the handhelds too.(not sure which version they used though)
Moves
This here is pretty neat! Here you can check which moves the pokemon learns at which level.
Biology
This includes some basic info like color, size etc. But more important - it's abilities, base stats, EV's, Base exp, Rareness, compatibility and Gender.
Third button: Your team
Here you can see your pokemons
- Click on their name to see details like stats, effects, moves etc.
- Click on the traingle above the sprite to move the pokemon up or down in the team position.
Fourth button: Bag
The bag, more on this later--> [Bag]
Fifth button: Map
Map, need I say more?
Sixth button: Friend list
Remember guys, friends are important (that's why I have 2)
SEVENTH BUTTON!: Messages
Why caps lock I hear you say? this one is important.
In this menu you have the option to accept challenges and/or trade invites.
Whenever someone wants to battle you, you get a red message in your message box. For starters it might be confusing, but it's THIS button.
== ========================== ====================== ==
== Keep in mind that trainers(cpu or online players) do not give your ==
== pokemon experience. NPC battles however influence your trainer**==
== exp. AND those do give money. Other players dont give you money==
== ========================== ====================== ==
Eight Button: Options
In my opinion this menu is quite easy.
Full screen for full screen
Mute for no sound
Disable surrounding maps this makes the game only show 1 map at a time. (so if you're on a certain route you can't "peek" in to another route).
Disable weather this disables the weather. (Yes there is weather but we set it default to disabled because it's quite demanding in resources).
And a Save button, where would we be without it right?
Most of the changes require you to re-log to take effect. So please do so before posting on the forums.
Ninth button: Mini help button
Speaks for itself.
Tenth button: Log out
Log out, a standard "Are you pretty sure you want to do this" pop up shows.
So far the menu items.
[Bag] The bag explained:
[TrO] Trainer Options:
Okay guys, here we've a list of "trainer options":
- Battle will put you up against another player if he accepts it (he'll get a red colored invite in his chatbox and he can accept it on the top of the screen).
- Trade
if the other guy accepts the trade invite you're transfered to this menu:
Note: You can see which pokemon the other person has selected ( notice that Machoko his sprite now has a border)
Select a pokemon and if you want you can send some money. (note, money can't be send without sending a pokemon)
When you're done with that click - Make offer.
The menu options will change to this:
If you want to trade, click "Trade".
If everything went right the two pokemons should be switched :)
- Whisper
Your chatwindow won't show "Local" anymore, but will show the user's name, you can talk in private now.
- Add friend
The person will show up in your friend list in the top menu.
[Play] Some hints and shortkeys on playing the game
Thanks to this thread I've learned some tricks on playing.
You can use the number keys (1,2,3,4) to use moves. The moves and numbers are linked as shown in the following picture;
Furthermore you can use the Space key for any interaction (this includes talking to NPC's and using cut and/or strenght).
WASD moves/ WASD keys
You can change the controls in the keys.ini file, located in <client>/res.
You can use the following code for it:
Change the following settings in the movement section:Code:;see specialkeys.txt for formats of keys like left shift, right control, etc [MOVEMENT] UP=KEY_UP LEFT=KEY_LEFT RIGHT=KEY_RIGHT DOWN=KEY_DOWN [RODS] OLD=R GOOD=T GREAT=Y ULTRA=U [BATTLEMOVES] ATTACK1=1 ATTACK2=2 ATTACK3=3 ATTACK4=4 [INTERACTION] TALK=SPACE

[Midgame] Quite an awesome tip on fast leveling and training
See this thread<-- click
If you can't be arshed to read the text:
Trainer exp: Start at Lavender town, walk down and beat all the trainers till you reach down from lavender town, until you reach Fuchsia city. Probably around 40 trainers which roughly give you $10k.
Pokemon exp: at that same route you have a few fields, grind bellsprouts, venonats, pidgeys, pidgeottos, glooms and noctowls there.(outside of Fuchsia City)
Done for today =)
[EV]This is a must read thread, if you know how to EV train your pokemon you will be able to get straight to the top.

If I ever find a way to quickly summarize it so that it's a 2 min read, I'll do so, but it's quite important that you know the whole thing.
